The rugs take their name from the city of Bokhara, an important Silk Road trading hub where these carpets were sold and gained international recognition. Today, while the name refers to this specific style, most Bokhara rugs are now hand-knotted in Pakistan, where artisans continue the traditional techniques with soft, high-pile wool.
