Materials & Technique: Zanjan carpets are usually wool pile on cotton (and occasionally wool) foundation, hand-knotted with symmetrical (Turkish) knots.
Design & Patterns: They feature bold geometric motifs, medallions, tribal symbols, and sometimes stylized animals or “fish” (mahi) patterns reflecting local symbolism and nature.
Traditional pieces use deep reds, blues, greens, and ivory, historically dyed with natural materials (though many later rugs use synthetic dyes).
