Fraghan carpets originate in the Ferghana Valley, a fertile region spanning parts of modern-day Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. This valley has been a cultural crossroads for over two millennia, sitting along major Silk Road routes that linked China, Persia, India, and the Mediterranean.

Because of this, Fraghan carpets absorbed influences from Turkic nomads, Persian artisans, and Chinese decorative traditions, while still retaining a strong local identity.

Fraghan carpets became valued regional trade goods, though they were less widely exported than Persian carpets.
